VADODARA: Doctors receiving motor accident cases need not bother about police formalities while treating a patient. In an attempt to ensure that such patients get treatment quickly, the city police have evolved a system where a doctor can merely send a facsimile or an email with details of the patient to the police control room and begin treatment.
It is common knowledge that often precious minutes that could save lives are wasted when a doctors calls for the police before beginning treatment of a patient.
To avoid delays that could cost lives, the city police have started reaching out to doctors and will next month launch a system to ensure that doctors do not have to face the burden of informing the police and completing formalities besides treating the patient.
The city police are approaching all the private doctors as well as hospitals with the procedure they have devised. The doctors will have to simply send a facsimile or an email with the details of the patient, spot of accident and their own details to the city police control room. "It will be the job of the control room to inform the police station and personnel from the police station will then visit the hospital to complete the formalities. In the meantime, the doctors can begin treatment without any fear," police commissioner Satish Sharma said.
Sharma added that a final meeting with the doctors was scheduled later this month. "Treatment should be a priority and after sending the details, the doctors need not worry," he said.
City-based orthopaedician Dr Ajay Shah said such a system would mean a lot of convenience for them. "We get such cases regularly. At times there are issues of police precincts remaining undecided and complications arise. We need not worry about such issues any more," he said.
General surgeon Dr Nitin Patel said in case of liver damages or abdominal bleeding, every minute was crucial. "The new system will ensure that there are no delays in treating such cases," Patel added.
